The Giants decision to pass on quarterbacks Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, and Josh Allen to take running back Saquon Barkley in last month’s NFL Draft has been criticized by some as not maximizing the value of the No. 2 overall pick.
Nadir Barnwell, 22, allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat while on a city pedestrian bridge early Monday morning, shook her and dropped her on her head, fracturing the woman’s skull, according to the arrest warrant from Nashville Metro Police.
Falcons signal-caller Matt Ryan inked a five-year, $150-million extension late this past week, marking yet another quarterback who’s leap-frogged his way to the top of the highest-paid quarterbacks list in the NFL. Newton, meanwhile, checks in at 15th on the average annual salary of any NFL quarterback in 2018, bringing in just over $20 million. Ryan will make $30 million in 2018, while Kirk Cousins ($28 million), Jimmy Garoppolo ($27.5 million), Matthew Stafford ($27 million) and Derek Carr ($25 million) round out the top five.
Ryan is the only quarterback in that top five who has won a playoff game. Essentially, the market for quarterbacks keeps growing and the next franchise quarterback to sign a deal will likely surpass Ryan (most expect it to be Packers star Aaron Rodgers).
The Panthers will soon have to do the same with Newton. The quarterback, who inked a five-year, $103.8 million extension in 2015, has a deal that’s set to expire following the 2020 season.
