What big-name free agents should the Devils pursue?

The blue liner racked up 71 points in the regular season, soaring past the career-high 28 points he posted in 2016-17. His stats were partially a product of a Broncos power play that led the WHL by converting 29.4 percent of its opportunities.

I’m trying to literally — it’s a like a song. Rhythm in the box. Just have some kind of dance just with my hands and my body, Frazier said.

The highly regarded 23-year-old outfielder was explaining a slight change in his swing that he believes helped him go on a Triple-A tear and wind up back where he wants to be — the major leagues.

Just trying to map the path of what’s to come, he said before the Yankees and Nationals got rained out at Nationals Park on Wednesday. “I’m trying to time my hands and my knee at the exact same time.”

While Prescott improved as a runner last season with 357 yards and six touchdowns, his production dropped across the board as a passer.

His completion percentage dipped from 67.8 percent to 62.9 percent, and he threw for over 300 fewer yards (3,324), one less touchdown (22) and nine more interceptions (13) in 2017 than he did in 2016.

Prescott was adversely impacted by the absence of superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott, who missed six games due to suspension.

Even though Prescott took a step back, he remains on pace to be one of the all-time great Cowboys quarterbacks based on what he accomplished in his first two seasons.

Getting to the top of that list ahead of Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach and Tony Romo will be a significant challenge, however.

Both Aikman and Staubach are Hall of Famers, with Aikman winning three Super Bowls and Staubach winning two.cowboys_057

Manaea follows no-no with strong start as A’s beat Astros

Sean Manaea followed up his no-hitter with seven solid innings, three Athletics homered and Oakland beat the Houston Astros 8-1 on Friday night for their fifth win in six games.

Manaea (4-2) no-hit Boston last Saturday and didn’t allow a hit Friday until the fourth inning. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and a walk and struck out seven.

Houston starter Dallas Keuchel (1-4) retired his first 13 batters before Matt Chapman hit a one-out homer in the fifth into the first row of the Crawford Boxes in left field to tie it 1-1.

Athletics: LHP Ryan Buchter was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder strain. Oakland recalled LHP Danny Coulombe from Triple A Nashville to take Buchter’s spot on the roster. … Oakland reinstated RHP Yusmeiro Petit from the bereavement list.

Athletics: RHP Daniel Mengden (2-2) looks for his third straight win Saturday. He is 0-2 with a 6.33 ERA in four career starts against Houston.

Astros: RHP Lance McCullers (3-1) starts Saturday looking for his third straight win. McCullers allowed one run over six innings Sunday against the White Sox.

Gates, 37, is the career leader in receiving touchdowns by an NFL tight end (114). He and quarterback Philip Rivers have connected on 87 touchdowns during their time together with the Chargers, the most in league history for a quarterback-tight end tandem.

Rivers, who joined the team the year after Gates arrived, said two weeks ago that they had communicated through text messages about Gates’ future.

“Shoot, I’ve been not only locker mates but spent a lot of time with Antonio over the last 14 seasons,” Rivers said. “Great player. Great person. We all know our friendship. You’d love for him to get one more shot to be with us and go make a run at it. … If it were not to work out, and if he were to decide to hang it up, who knows? He’s had a heck of a run. He has nothing left to prove, that’s for sure.”

An eight-time Pro Bowl selection, Gates signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2003. He is the Chargers’ franchise leader in receptions (927), receiving yards (11,508) and touchdown catches, surpassing the output of Hall of Famers Lance Alworth, Charlie Joiner and Kellen Winslow.

Gates posted 100-plus receiving yards in 21 games throughout his career, making him one of just seven tight ends in NFL history with 20-plus games of at least 100 receiving yards.dolphins_031

Pacers even series, force Game 7 by blowing out Cavs 121-87

Victor Oladipo scored 28 points and posted the first postseason triple-double of his career Friday night, leading the Indiana Pacers to a 121-87 blowout over the Cleveland Cavaliers to even the series at three.

Game 7 will be played Sunday in Cleveland.

The three-time defending Eastern Conference champs again were led by LeBron James with 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Nobody else scored more than 13 points as the Cavaliers lost their first closeout game in 14 tries dating to 2009. James had won 11 consecutive closeout games and is 12-0 all-time in the first-round series.

Indiana’s 10-2 spurt midway through the second quarter made it 46-36. The Pacers opened the third by scoring the first five points to make it 62-47 and then they poured it on.

Myles Turner’s 3-pointer with 7:03 left in the third made it a 20-point game and the Pacers closed the quarter on a 10-1 run to extend the lead to 92-67.

Cavaliers: The 34-point margin was Cleveland’s worst playoff loss since James returned. … The Cavs finished 1-4 in Indianapolis this season after falling to 4-6 in the season series. … Cleveland has only lost eight playoff games against the East since 2015 — three in this series. … Last year, the Cavs averaged 116.2 points per game. This year, they’ve only reached triple digits once in the six games. … Jeff Green scored 13 points and Rodney Hood had 12 as the Cavs committed 15 turnover and were 12 of 38 on 3s.

Pacers: Have not lost three straight games since snapping a five-game skid in early January. … The Pacers’ three wins have come by 18, two and 34 points. The Cavs’ wins have come by margins of three, four and three points. … Indiana has been eliminated by James’ teams in four of its last six playoff appearances. … The Pacers produced their highest point total in the series Friday. … Seven players scored in double figures: Domantas Sabonis had 19, Darren Collison had 15, Lance Stephenson had 12 and Bojan Bogndanovic and Young each had 10. … Indiana was 15 of 30 on 3s.

Trevor Story hit the second grand slam of his career, Freeland scattered three hits over seven crisp innings and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 8-0 on a cold Tuesday night.

“The illegal check to the head rule is often misunderstood or misstated,” the league said in the video. “Illegal checks to the head and legal full body hits often look similar at first glance because the difference between legal and illegal can be a matter of inches in a sport that moves fast.”jets_017

Bruce’s HR in 10th sends Mets to 6-5 win over Cardinals

A slumping Jay Bruce took extra batting practice before Tuesday night’s game. The extra swings paid off handsomely.

Bruce hit a tiebreaking homer in the 10th inning, Yoenis Cespedes launched a majestic, three-run shot and the New York Mets rallied for a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bruce began the game batting .194 but broke out with three hits, including an RBI triple.

“You never feel perfect, but I think overall the timing’s been a little off,” he said. “I haven’t been in sync for an extended period of time yet, but I’m working at it every day.”

Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Bruce looked different at the plate.

“He was on time,” Callaway said. “He wasn’t feeling for it. He was letting it go. It looked like he had a little bit of that conviction in his swing back. He went and attacked the ball and lived with the results and the results were good.”

Back-to-back doubles by Dexter Fowler and Paul DeJong off Harvey with two outs in the fifth gave St. Louis a 5-4 lead.

Harvey declined to speak with reporters after the game.

“There’s no doubt that tonight he went out there and attacked and tried to help the team,” Callaway said of Harvey. “He’s manned up and he’s going to do the job.”

Robert Gsellman (3-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win, and Jeurys Familia earned his ninth save.

The Yankees have played very well against the Angels at home over the past 10 seasons, going 25-10 in those games. Unfortunately, this series is in Anaheim, where the Yankees are just 14-19 during that same span.

Luis Severino is expected to start the series opener on Friday. He has one career start against the Angels: He allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings in a 10-5 loss on June 22 of last season.

A couple of notable Yankees against the Angels? Aaron Judge is 7-for-33 (.212), with three home runs, four walks and 14 strikeouts, while Giancarlo Stanton is 13-for-33 (.394), with three home runs, three walks and 10 strikeouts.

The Astros’ dynamic duo of Jose Altuve (.320 AVG, .974 OPS, 2 HRs) and Carlos Correa (.333 AVG, .913 OPS, 1 HR) gave the Yankees problems during the ALCS.

Stanton has not fared well in his career against the Astros, hitting .183 with just two home runs in 82 career plate appearances. Judge has fared a little better — he’s 6-for-22 (.273) with a home run, six walks and 11 strikeouts.jets_053

Chris Doleman fights brain cancer with positive outlook

The tumor removed from Hall of Fame defensive end Chris Doleman’s brain turned out to be cancerous, and the surgery revealed two other tumors currently being treated with radiation. He nevertheless maintains a positive outlook.

“I feel great, man,” Doleman recently told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “God has blessed me for the last month just waking up every day, one day at a time. That’s how I look at it.”

The Bills paying AJ McCarron backup-type money and trading into this spot while also holding the No. 22 overall pick suggests they are making a strong play for franchise quarterback early, either by trading up again or staying put. Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott from their days in Carolina should be well aware of how far a defense, a running game and a dual-threat QB can take a team. Mayfield has the “it” factor to finally give Buffalo a long-term solution.

The Redskins’ interior line took a hit with Spencer Long leaving in free agency (Jets), and guard Shawn Lauvao is unsigned. They should think defense with this pick if the player is right (Smith or Vea), but Daniels would be a fine player to line up in front of Alex Smith and also upgrade the run-blocking.

In one of his six games as a rookie, Rademacher intercepted George Blanda.

He played 31 games in his Jets career, including all 14 regular-season games during the team’s 1968 Super Bowl season. He had two receptions for 11 yards that season and played special teams and in the secondary. Rademacher had three tackles in the AFC Championship Game against Oakland.

“One of Weeb Ewbank’s favorite quotes was ‘the more things you can do helps you get a spot on the team,’” Jets longtime public relations director Frank Ramos said, via a team press release. “Rad, like John Dockery, was one of those good athletes who could help out on offense and defense in a pinch and also proved to be a very good special teams player.”

Rademacher spent his final two seasons with Boston after the Jets cut him during the 1969 preseason.

During his career, he played 58 games and made 24 catches for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

Rademacher returned to his alma mater and served as NMU’s head coach for five seasons.bills_121

Carolina Panthers Sweepstakes Enters Its Home Stretch

The sale of the Carolina Panthers appears to be near.

N.F.L. owners were told at their annual meeting last month that a winning bid could be selected by the end of April. Assuming the N.F.L. finds no red flags when it performs due diligence on the winning bidder, the owners could vote on the sale of the team at their next meeting, in Atlanta in late May. At least 24 owners must approve any team transactions.

Steve Greenberg, who is running the auction for the current Panthers owner, Jerry Richardson, had no comment.

The sale of the Panthers is being widely watched in the league because the final price will become a benchmark for other team sales. Sports bankers said the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans could change hands in the next few years. The patriarchs of each of those teams has died in recent years or are in failing health.

Lewis went on to say he and Beckham talked back and forth earlier in his career but that the three-time Pro Bowler “started to distance himself a little more, a little more and a little more.” Because of that, Lewis contends Beckham’s commitment level has waned.

It’s not the first time the former linebacker has been critical of Beckham. Lewis was among many who called out Beckham after the infamous boat trip ahead of the Giants’ 2017 NFC Wild Card Round defeat to the Green Bay Packers:

Out since the start of April with an upper-body injury, No. 1 goalie John Gibson is loosely expected to return for Game 1. If not, veteran Ryan Miller will look to build off this past weekend’s 31-save shutout in Arizona. Honestly, despite Gibson’s solid play all season, the injury remains a worry. There appear to be surer bets in net elsewhere.bills_017

Khalil Mack Reportedly Not at Raiders Workouts; Contract Talks ‘Weren’t Close’

The Oakland Raiders and defensive star Khalil Mack have reportedly been discussing a contract extension and “hoped to move quickly on it,” but “early talks weren’t close,” per Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Monday.

Mack also hasn’t reported to the team’s offseason conditioning program, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, who added that was unusual for him.

It’s still far too early to draw any conclusions about this class, but it does seem likely that the person who submitted a first-place vote for Kizer probably won’t be bragging about it publicly anytime soon.

On Tuesday, we’ll try to figure out why teams struggle to evaluate quarterbacks, figure out whether the problems are fixable, and apply what we know (and don’t know) to the Class of 2018.

Jon Gruden’s first game back on the sideline after a nine-year sabbatical in the TV booth will be met with the gusto of a rock band returning to tour. Placing Gruden’s return in Oakland will make the hoopla even more grandiose. Sure, the first preseason game will tell us little to nothing about what the future holds for the 2018 Raiders , but having Chucky back in action will boost hope for a new beginning.

The NFL released the 2018 NFL preseason schedule on Wednesday. The 65-game slate features eight nationally televised games, including a tilt between the Eagles and the Browns at FirstEngery Stadium in Cleveland on Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

The 2018 preseason will kick off Thursday, Aug. 2 (NBC, 8 p.m. ET), in Canton, Ohio, when the Chicago Bears take on the Baltimore Ravens in the annual Hall of Fame Game. All preseason games will be shown on NFL Network. Specific dates and times for every game will be released later this offseason.

The Giants might be without star safety Landon Collins until training camp.rams_034
